Daniel H. Anders, 85, of East Freedom RD 1 died Thursday evening, Oct. 14, 1999, at the Nason Hospital emergency room, Roaring Spring, following a heart attack at home.

A funeral was held Monday with military honors at Sorge Funeral Home, Hollidaysburg, by Pastor David McClanahan. Burial was in Carson Valley Cemetery.

Mr. Anders was born July 9, 1914, in Water Street, a son of Dorsey and Molly (Ickes) Anders.

He married Minnie B. Smith on Aug. 1, 1933, in Cumberland, Md.

His wife survives, along with two sons, Darl C. Stiffler and Gary Anders, both of East Freedom RD; a sister, Pauline Porter of Harrisburg; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He retired from the Blair County Highway Department in 1963. Before that he had worked for General Refractories Claysburg, for 15 years.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Philippines.

He was a 63-year member of the Smith Corner Mennonite Church, East Freedom RD, and a member of Duncansville Memorial Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
