Ruby Dykhuis, 89, of Hallock and formerly of Pembina, N.D. died at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008.

Ruby Emmaline Gatheridge was born March 13, 1919 at Humboldt, Minnesota to William and Elvira (Granhquist) Gatheridge.

She grew up on the family farm and graduated as Salutatorian from Humboldt High School in 1936. June 4, 1937 she married Henry Dykhuis at her parents home. Ruby and Henry farmed on the Dykhuis homestead, just three miles from where she grew up. The couple lived on the farm until 1990 when they moved into Pembina. Henry died in December of that year. Ruby entered Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in 2006.

Family members include two daughters, Grace (Larry) Kadolph, Eldora, Iowa and Judith (Richard) Skinner, Pembina; grandchildren, Dean Armfield, Eldora, Iowa, Daniel Armfield, Gifford, Iowa, Sherry (Larry) Majewski, Lambertville, Mich. and Blake Skinner, Pembina; great grandchildren, Brett Armfield, Mya, Maylin, Ivy and Katy Majewski; a sister, Vera Moe, East Grand Forks, MN; step grandchildren, Rebecca (Dale) Lueck, Monica (Scott) Beenken, Tom (Sheila) Kadolph, Joni (Mike) Welch and Jon Kadolph; 17 step great grandchildren and 14 step great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Julia (Gordon) Hjalmervik; brothers, Carl (Lois) Gatheridge, Bill (Irene) Gatheridge, brothers-in-law, Elmer Moe, Ben (Lizzie) Dykhuis and Sam (Muriel) Dykhuis; sister-in-law, Tillie (Frank) Cleem; and two step granddaughters, Leslie Lorber and Lisa Kadolph.

Funeral were held Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. in the Austin-Hughes Funeral Chapel at Hallock.

Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock.

Rev. Don Schmid, presided with special music provided by Marge Dykhuis. Casket bearers were Dick Gatheridge, Terry Moe, Bill Dykhuis, Iver Cleem, Charles Gatheridge and David Loer.
