John Padgett was born in Brownsville Tx on April 8, 1913.
Shortly after his family moved back to Florida, in 1914 his family mover to Lake Okeechobee and settled where the town of Pahokee soon rose up.
John attended Pahokee Schools and was a Grad of Pahokee High School class of 1932. he played on the schools first football team in 1930.
After finishing High school John worked in his family's farming business and later went to work for the State of Florida Road Dept. In 1940 he enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and was in the Philppine Islands on December 7, 1941 when the war with Japan started.
He fought in the Philppines and was on Batann during the heavy fighting.
On April 9. 1942 when Bataan fell he became a Prinisor Of War of the Japanese and was on the Bataan Death March.
During the war he was placed on a "Hell Ship" and transported to Japan where he was forced to do slave labor in the Mitsubishi Copper Mine.
When the Japanese surrendered he was brought home and after recovering from his ordeal resumed his work with the Florida State Road Dept.
He worked his way up the ladder and retired in the mid 70's as a engineere and moved to West Palm Beach Florida
He later moved back to his home town of Pahokee Florida where he passed away in 2005
