Corporal Allen was the Left Gunner aboard the B-29 #42-63538 "Winged Victory II," and was killed in action while on a night mission to Tokyo, Japan on May 26, 1945. Six of his crewmates also died when their plane was shot down and crashed; four were taken as prisoners of war and all but one was liberated. The crew was as follows:
