EUFAULA, Ala. -- Former Eufaula police chief and city council member Johnnie G. ''Buck'' Abbott, 82, of Eufaula, died Thursday at Lakeview Community Hospital, Eufaula.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Eufaula First Baptist Church, with burial 4 p.m. EDT in Lakeview Memory Gardens, Phenix City.

Mr. Abbott was born Nov. 6, 1912, in Pike County, son of James and Martha Pittman Abbott. He retired as police chief and as a restaurant owner in Eufaula. He was a Mason for 50 years with Harmony Lodge No. 46, and was a member of the Alaga Scottish Rite, the Chattahoochee Shrine Club and the Alabama Peace Officers Association. He served four years as a city councilman and 12 years as chief of police. He lived in Eufaula for 46 years and was a member of Eufaula First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; and a sister, Mildred Blake of Las Vegas, Nev.
