OBIT, Hays Daily News, July 5, 2000:

SMITH CENTER - Bernice M. Barta, 84, a former Plainville resident, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb.

She married Steve Barta Oct. 26, 1940 in Osborne County. He died Dec. 14, 1993. She was a registered nurse and Director of Nursing at the Rooks County Nursing Home in Plainville and a homemaker. She was a member of the Plainville United Methodist Church, Plainville Hospital Auxiliary and the Plainville Rookies camping group.

Survivors include a son, Roger, Smith Center; a daughter, Phyllis Snook, Clarinda, Iowa; two sisters, Goldie Kolb, Nickerson, and Opal Hann, Hanston; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.

Services were at 2 p.m. today at the Plainville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gene McIntosh officiating; burial in the Plainville Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Plainville United Methodist Church.
