Anna is the daughter of James & Mary (née Ward) Martin of Baltray, Ireland. She had 2 brothers & 3 sisters.

Anna was 2 years old when her father James Martin drowned. Originally a farmer from Co. Cavan, after his marriage to Anna's mother, James went to live in Baltray and like all the other young men in Baltray he joined a ship and went sailing. He was drowned in 1893 when his ship was lost at sea. He was 49.

Anna emigrated to the United States and it was there she met Tom McGowan. They married in New York City and returned to Ireland in 1914, raising 6 children in Dublin City. (Refer to Tom's Memorial page for more details.)

✞ Anna McGowan is buried in her McGowan family plot at Glasnevin Cemetery. Buried with her is Tom, her husband of 51 years, their son Jack and daughters Mary & Alice.
