Wife of Benjamin C. Twiss

Philomela was born in 1806 in Cayuga County, NY and died 14 Sep 1876 in Townsend Twp., Sandusky, OH. Her tombstone reads "Philomela wife of B C Twiss died Sep 14, 1876, age 69 y". It's a large stone with a curved top and almost covered by a large bush.

Directions to Throopsville cemetery - NYS Thruway to Exit 40 Weedsport. Go south on Route 34 a short distance to the traffic light. Turn right, going west on Route 31 toward Port Byron. At the light in Port Byron go straight on Route 38 toward Auburn. Go about 2 miles to a 4 way intersection. On the left is Farm Boy Graphics. Turn right and continue past the Baptist Church. The cemetery will be on your left.
When you turn into the cemetery turn right at the cross road and drive a short distance. Look for a black iron fence on the far right for the Gwynn family. Philomela's stone is between the road and the iron fence. The writing faces the back of the cemetery. In front of her stone is her sister Martia Tyler Downing. Nearby is a Lamb monument.


Polly Tyler Twiss and Philomela Tyler Twiss were daughters of Elliot and _____ Bristol Tyler.

Philomela and Polly's mother was Avice Bristol. Their sister Sally Tyler married Morton Hosford and is buried in Throopsville Cemetery.
