John McClenaghan was born 20 April 1845 in N. Ireland and immigrated to Little Britain, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, as a young child. John was the son of Robert McClenaghan (1822 - aft 1880) and Mary (Young) McClenaghan (1820 - 27 Jan 1867). John married (1) Mahila Cooper in Ashland County, Iowa in 1873. She died 6 months later, and John married (2) Nancy Jane Harvey, 25 Feb 1876, in Richardson County, Nebraska. Nancy Jane Harvey (28 June 1857 - 9 Aug 1938) was the daughter of Oliver Jackson Harvey and Martha E. Lorton.

John and Nancy Jane settled in Kansas, where they lived first in Seneca, Nemaha County; next in Spring Creek, Coffey County; and last in Greeley, Anderson County. John was a farmer and operated the Belmont Hotel and Livery in Greeley. John died 10 June 1918 in a hospital in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas and is interred in the Rose Hill Memorial Park, Tulsa, Oklahoma. His obituary reads (paper unknown, probably Greeley, Anderson, KS): "John McClenaghan, of this city, died at a hospital in Ottawa Monday at 11 a.m. He was taken there for treatment Saturday evening. He had been sick three weeks. The funeral was held at the residence here at 4 p.m. Tuesday and was preached by Rev. Price. The body was taken to Tulsa, Okla., for burial. John McClenaghan was born April 20, 1845, in Lancaster Co., Pa [sic-he was born in Ireland, not Pennsylvania]. When 20 years old, he moved to Fairfield Co., Ohio, and later to Davis Co., Iowa. In 1873 in Richardson Co., Nebraska he married Mahila Cooper, who died 6 months later. On Feb. 25, 1876 he was united in marriage with Nancy Jane Harvey. To this union were born were born 8 children, 3 of whom died in infancy. His wife and 5 children survive him: Nettie May and Clara Belle McClenaghan of Tulsa, Okla.; John A. McClenaghan of Dallas, Texas; C.G. McClenaghan of Oakland, Cal. and Mary Young McClenaghan; also a brother in Detroit and a sister in Holtwood, Pa. The deceased had lived here 17 years. He was raised a member of the old school Presbyterian Church. While not an active church worker, he lived a consistent Christian life and was honored and praised by all who knew him."

Nancy Jane moved to Tulsa to live with her daughters Clara Belle and Mary, and died there 9 Aug 1938. Clara Belle McClenaghan, a needlework instructor in a large department store in Tulsa, was an excellent seamstress and quilter. Mary Young McClenaghan was a teacher in Tulsa, then later became the Superintendent of the Tulsa School District. Neither Clara Belle or Mary Young McClenaghan ever married.
