This is the obituary of Charles Cuyler, published in the Portland Observer of Portland, MI on Dec 28th 1904 & Jan 4. 1905
"Uncle Charlie" Cuyler, whom we spoke of last week as being dangerously sick, died at his home in this village Tuesday morning at 5 o'clock surrounded by his family. Palsy was the cause of death. Mr. Cuyler was in his 80th year of age. While arrangements for the funeral have not been perfected, they will be held at the U.B. church Thursday forenoon.
If the appellation "poor but honest" ever applied to anybody it does to "Uncle Charlie" Cuyler.
2nd notice:
The funeral of Chas. H. Cuyler was attended from U.B. church last Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Millard officiated. The time of burial was changed from Thursday forenoon to Wednesday afternoon because a nephew who was expected to come from Niagara Falls telegraphed that it was impossible for him to leave home.
Mr. Cuyler had lived here 20 years, coming here from Shaytown, Eaton county.
