The Daily Sentinel, Friday, February 7, 1964 Robert C. Carpenter, 68, of 142 Arnold Street, died at 11:500 p.m. Thursday at the Ionia County Memorial hospital after being admitted about 12 hours earlier.

He was born December 17, 1895 in Portland township, the son of Clarence and Myrtie McVeigh Carpenter, and was married to Catherine Pung in Ionia, June 27, 1922.

A resident of Ionia nearly 40 years, he had been ill the past 15 years and prior to that was employed by Ypsilanti Reed Furniture company. He and his wife owned and operated the Vogue Shop in Ionia 21 years until the business was sold in 1962. They also owned the Vogue shop in Portland, Michigan, (Marilynn Johnson.

Mr. Carpenter was a member of SS. Peter and Paul church. Surviving are his wife Catherine; two daughters, Mrs. James Hayden and Mrs. John Simon of Ionia; and a sister, Mrs. Benice Holtz of Lansing. Rosary will be recited Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:30 also Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Funeral mass will be at St. Peter and Paul church Monday at 9 a.m. interment will be at Portland cemetery.
