SP (Soloman Poindexter) "Deck" Goodman was born in Coffee (Grundy)County, Tennessee, April 19, 1836, to Anderson S. Goodman and Evalina Payne Goodman. A farmer on the Goodman family farm in Grundy County he met and married Louisa Mira Powell of Manchester, England and Tennessee, 20 September 1857, Grundy Co., Tn. Volunteered Confederate States Army, Co.K 44th (consolidated) Infantry Regiment, Tennessee, 1861.Taken prisoner by the Union Forces. Joined his wife and young children in Atlanta, Ga., at the end of the Civil War, and lived there with his family the remainder of his life. SP Goodman died 22 April 1877, at the age of 41, of consumption due to "exposure in the war". His devoted wife, Louisa, buried him in Oakland Cemetery along side their young son Francis and young daughter Annie B.. Louisa M. Powell Goodman, is buried in New Gray Cemetery, Knoxville, Tn.
