HUDSON, Fla. — Burl "Ed" Edward Broomhead, 73, passed away Saturday in Hudson, Fla., after complications from heart surgery.
Born at home, March 19, 1924, in Yuba, he moved to Florida 18 years ago from Vernon Hills, IL
He was a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Navy Submarine Service, and served his country in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Retired Officers Association in New Port Richey, Fla.; member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Clearwater, Fla.; belonged to the D.A.V. Post No. 78 in New Port Richey; Suncoast Chapter of World War II Submarine Veterans in the Tampa Bay Area; and AARP.
Survivors include three sons, Brion (Kathy) and Craig of Homosassa, Fla., and Bruce of Waukegan, IL.; one daughter, Roxanne (Stan) Revell of Antioch, IL; four grandchildren, Marilyn, Michelle, Brion, and Colin; one great-grandchild, Mark; and a sister, Leola Bussa of Elk Rapids. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Hazel; one brother, Melvin; two sisters, Lydia and Irene; and his brother-in-law and good friend, Paul Bussa.
Services were held May 28 in Holiday, Fla. A memorial service will be held at a later date when he will be laid in rest next to his beloved wife in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in Traverse City.
Arrangements are being handled by Dobies Funeral Home in Holiday, Fla.
