He was born in Perrington on Oct. 18, 1933, the son of Lamont J. and Mahre D. (Martin) Litwiller. On Jan. 31, 1970, he married Laurice (Specht) Litwiller in Traverse City.
Dewayne worked in and around farming all of his life. He worked the stockyards during livestock auctions. He drove a truck transporting livestock for Jim Robertson, and also worked for Ludka Packing, Louie's Meats, and Tannerhill and DeYoung.
Dewayne enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as farming, gardening and fishing. He was also active in 4-H.
He is survived by his wife, Laurice of Traverse City; four children, Mike (Mary Ellen) Litwiller, Gary Litwiller, Melody Litwiller and Dewayne (Cheryl) Litwiller Jr.; 11 grandchildren; his sisters, Ritha Lippert and Doloris Rishards; and his brothers, Bob Litwiller and Lamont Litwiller Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dick Litwiller and Gordon Litwiller; and two sisters, Una Thompson and Margie Gonzalez.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, with a rosary at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
The family asks those wishing to give memorials to please remember the Northwestern Michigan Fair.
