JOHN E. BAITY
---At the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis this morning, John E. Baity who had been associated with local business first for the past forty-five years and a member of the Young and Baity Clothing Company, succumbed to an illness of about two weeks.
---He was stricken February 4 with a throat infection from which he suffered quite severely for a few days. It seemingly passed away and he was apparently on the way to a speedy recovery when interior developments set in with accompanying intense suffering. He bore his suffering very patiently until it was suggested by his physician, Dr. H.O. Newton, that quicker relief might be obtained if he would enter a hospital under the care of a specialist. On Saturday morning, February 19, he was taken to the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis accompanied by Dr. H.O. Newton and W.B. Bragg.
---By the advice of Dr. Grayhum and other prominent members of the hospital staff, he underwent an operation Monday evening, February 21. He rallied well from the operation and, it it is said, doctors and attendants became quite hopeful for his recovery. This morning, however, he suddenly collapsed and passed away.
---No one in the vicinity of La Plata will be more missed than John Baity. He associated himself in 1882 with Doneghy Brothers, one of the old-time and revered firms of La Plata and later with Goodding and Williams and remained until 1915, entering business for himself with the Young and Baity Clothing Company. Mr. Baity's pleasant manner, alertness and capability added much to the development of the firm, one of the well known progressive and prospective clothing firms in this part of the state. He was constantly at duty at the store for the last twelve years spending in all, forty-five years in active business.
---He was the second son of a family of eleven children, the eight remaining brothers and sisters as follows: Dr. George P. Baity, pastor of the Westport Presbyterian Church, Kansas City, Missouri, James L. Baity, Assistant Comptroller of Currency, Washington, D.C., Frank M. Baity, a member of the firm, The Voress Shoe Company, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Harry Baity, who has, for many years, been associated with and oil company at Port Noohes, Texas, Mrs. W.B. Bragg and Mrs. Robert P. Doneghy of La Plata, Mrs. N.L. Vanderlip, Dowds, Iowa, Mrs. Emmett Johnson, Saratoga, Wyoming; two brothers have preceded him in death, Harvey, who died April 12, 1906 and Herbert who died July 19, 1921.
---He was married October 10, 1892 to Miss Mattie Spencer who passed away October 9, 1921.
---Besides his eight brothers and sisters, he leaves a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
---Mr. Baity professed faith in his Savior and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at La Plata and remained an active member, the church at present being the Community Presbyterian Church.
---He was a member of the Masonic, Odd Fellows, Knight of Pythias and Woodmen Orders and at all times was ready to render his services in his town and community having served as a member of the city council and other community offices.
---The hour and place of the funeral is not fully determined but probably will be Sunday, the 27th, conducted by Wylie F. Steen and interment in the La Plata cemetery.
