In this photo, taken 14 Oct 2015, the marker on the left-hand side is that of Horatio Brown and the marker on the right-hand side is that of Harriet (West) Brown.

The earliest extant burial records for Greenwood Cemetery start in 1891. Gilbert died before that. He is shown as the owner of Lot 130 in Section D, but he does not otherwise appear in the cemetery records. His wife, Anne E Olmstead; son, Horatio; son, Willard; and daughter-in-law, Harriet West (wife of Willard, Hanett in the cemetery records), have markers on Lot 130. Willard and Harriet are the only people shown in the cemetery records to be buried on Lot 130, as they are the only ones who died after 1891.

I have walked and photographed this entire cemetery, and did not find a marker for Gilbert anywhere.

Among the members of the Brown family, Anne died first, and is buried at the north end of Lot 130. Horatio died next and is buried immediately south of Anne. Gilbert died next. There is a space without a marker immediately south of Horatio. The next marker is for Harriet, who was the next person to die. Willard, the last to die, is the furthest to the south.

Gilbert's death notice, published in the Lockport Daily Journal, USA, NY, Niagara, Lockport, on 24 May 1881, does not state a place of burial. Under the circumstances that Gilbert had been such a long-time resident of Wilson, and other family members were buried in Greenwood, it would seem likely that a place of burial would have been mentioned if it were any place other than Greenwood.

Based on the lack of a marker elsewhere for Gilbert, the fact that he was the owner of Lot 130, the burial of family members in the order of their deaths from north to south, and the space between Horatio and Harriet, it is my belief that Gilbert was buried next to Horatio and that, if he had a marker, that marker is no longer .
