Nancy K. Finney, 61, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita.
Born April 2, 1952 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Calvin and Mabel (Lanier) Holt. She was raised and received her education in Atlanta and graduated from Central of Burden High School in 1970. She then attended Pittsburg State before transferring to Cowley County Community College where she received her Associates Degree.
Nancy was united in marriage to Robert L. "Bobby" Finney on October 24, 1972 at First United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Floral. They later moved to Burden. Nancy worked as an aide at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. She later began working as a Para Educator for Burden Schools, where she remained for over 20 years. Mr. Finney preceded her in death on December 29, 2009.
She enjoyed taking her grandchildren fishing, and just spending time with kids in general. She would often volunteer her time after school to stay and help any kid that needed an extra hand.
Her family includes: Her son: Brett Finney and wife, Misty of Winfield; Her daughter: Amanda Finney of Winfield; Her grandchildren: Kayleigh, Erica and Cole Finney of Winfield; Her brothers: Ralph Holt and wife, Marie of Rock; Raymond Holt and wife, Maureen of Derby; Leonard Holt and wife, Janet of Rock; Glen Holt of Rock; Eldon Holt and wife, Carolyn of Phoenix, AZ; and A host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Davis, a brother-in-law, Dick Davis, and a sister-in-law, Edell Holt.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Central of Burden High School in Burden. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Friday evening, April 12, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors at this time.
A scholarship fund has been established in Nancy's name for Central of Burden High School. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
