Edward L. Collins, Jr., 73, of Oxford, died Saturday, May 19, 2007, at his home.

He was the husband of Helen Steinberger Collins, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

Born in Littlestown, he was the son of the late Edward L. and Emily Stem Collins Sr.

Edward was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Korean War.

He graduated from Eckels Mortuary School, Philadelphia, in 1952.

He was the owner and operator of the Edward L. Collins Funeral Home Inc. in Oxford from 1975 until the present. He had worked with the late Lewis B. Cauffman at the funeral home from 1958 until the time of the purchase. His son, Kevin D. Collins, joined his father in the family business in 1985.

Edward was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, member and past president of the Oxford Lions Club, member of the Newark Country Club and he served on the board of directors of the Oxford Senior Center and the Chester County Automobile Association.

He enjoyed traveling, especially to the Saratoga racetrack in New York; to The Greenbriar Resort in West Virginia; and to play golf in North Carolina and Florida.

He adored his family and friends and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them.

He is survived by his loving wife; two sons, Edward L. Collins III and his wife, Cynthia of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Kevin D. Collins and his wife, Pamela of Oxford; two daughters, Coletta L. Robinson and her husband, Joseph of Pottstown and Janine Y. Pavese and her husband, Robert of Lincoln University; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Coletta L. Childress of Ocala, Fla.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, at Sacred Heart Church, 203 Church Road, Oxford.

Interment with full military honors will be in Oxford Cemetery.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Edward L. Collins Funeral Home Inc., 86 Pine St., Oxford.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Sacred Heart Church, 203 Church Road, Oxford, PA 19363.
