He was born November 30, 1922 in McIntosh, MN, the son of Knute and Louise Sveen Ferden. After attending rural schools north of McIntosh, MN, he graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN.
During World War II, he served with the US Army in both the European and Pacific Theaters of Operation. He received his discharge in February 1946.
He married Irene Torgerson January 9. 1943 in Walker, MN. They resided in Minneapolis and Mcintosh before moving to Fosston in 1964. For 43 years Maurice worked for Garden Valley Telephone Co., retiring in 1988.
He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, McIntosh, from 1946 to 1964 and presently was a member of Kingo Lutheran in Fosston, MN. Over the years he was active on the Church board and in church functions.
A member of the Fosston Utilities Commission, he also belonged to McIntosh Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6891 and Tangen-Walstrom American Legion Post 114 in Fosston, MN.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; a son; 2 daughters, Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 1 step-great grandchild, a brother, and 2 sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bruce; brothers, Obert, Kenneth, and Hubert, and sisters, Thelma, Amy, Leona and Violet.
