DEATH OF MRS. MARTIN

Never Recovered From Illness Which Seized Her In Theatre.

Mrs. Blanche Stiles Martin, wife of John Norton Martin, died at her home, No. 618 Walnut Street at 8 o'clock Wednesday of acute Bright's disease. She was taken ill while attending a performance at the Orpheum Theatre on Monday and was removed to her home in the ambulance. She became unconscious shortly afterward and remained in that state up to her death. During her illness she had the attention of four physicians, but little could be done to bring her relief.

Deceased was born in the city November 20, 1865, and was therefore 41 years, 2 months and 17 days of age. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dodson Stiles, both deceased. Her mother was Mary Amanda, daughter of John S. and Sarah Rupp Gibons. Her father represented the district in the Thirty-seventh, Thirty-eighth and Forty-first Congresses of the United States. He was a distinguished lawyer and practiced at the Lehigh County Bar nearly half a century, and was one of the best known men in Pennsylvania. Mrs. Martin's maternal grandfather was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate in the first half of the nineteenth century.

Mrs. Martin's family is one of great antiquity and is traced in Great Britain before the conquest. The family seat was in Melbroke, Balfordshire, England, whence came the founders of the American family. They settled in Luzerne County, where Mr. Stiles was born.

Mrs. Martin was educated in the public schools of this city. She was married in 1885 to her surviving husband. One son, Frederick Stiles Martin, survives with four brothers, John L. Stiles, Boston, C.F. Stiles, Clarence H. Stiles and ex-senator Harry G. Stiles of this city, and a sister, Mrs. C.J. McKee, of Aurora, Nebraska. Deceased was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Died of uremic convulsions and had puerperal fever according to her death certificate.
