Thel Crandall, a resident of Parkside Court, formerly of Bloomington and Pompano Beach, Fla., passed away at 9:35 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mrs. Crandall was hired by Westinghouse in Bloomington prior to the plant opening and retired in 1989 after a long career in the purchasing department. Mrs. Crandall was a member of the First Christian Church in Columbus and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and dancing; however, spending time with her grandchildren was her greatest passion and she was a Powder Puff stock car driver in Bloomington, driving the cars her husband built.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Dan LeClerc, Dean Mathis and Major Mark Litherland officiating. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday. The graveside committal service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington with burial to follow.

Born in Clay City July 26, 1927, Mrs. Crandall was the daughter of Harry and Eva King White. Thel married Winfred Earl Crandall December 15, 1945.

Mrs. Crandall is survived by her son, Tom (Nancy) Crandall of Greenwood; a daughter, Tammie (Dan) LeClerc of Columbus; grandchildren, Emily Crandall, Ph.D. of Atlanta, Ga., Betsy Crandall, D.D.S. of Greenwood and Joshua Ratliff and Connor and Adam LeClerc, all of Columbus; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Crandall was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on February 16, 1970; and sisters, Naomi Smith, Irma Shields, Kathryn Neiswinger Krauchi and Vivian Dalton.
