Byrel continued to play baseball for teams including the Frisco Seals (California),the Denver Athletics, the Utah-Idaho League and the St. Louis Cardinals.
He married Thelma D'Allemand on January 22, 1930 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Sometime afterward, Byrel went into business with his father. They had interests in Litchfield and Mason City. Also for a time, Byrel owned the Litchfield Locker and Grocery.
He worked as a mail carrier and later as a postmaster. In 1972, he retired from thirty-three years of Civil Service.
