Funeral Service For J. P. Dooley
Funeral services for J. P. Dooley, 85, who died at Justin Thursday night, were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Prairie Mound cemetery under the auspices of the Justin Masonic Lodges, with the Rev. Mr. Weaver, Methodist minister of Justin, preaching the sermon.
Dooley is survived by eight children as follows: Mrs. Pearle France, Abilene; William Dooley, Selby; Charles and Day Dooley, Justin; George Dooley, Roanoke; Mrs. L. L. Dunnegan, Kansas City; Mrs. L. A. Faught, Frisco; Mrs. W. E. Lyles, Justin.
Dooley, who was born in Richmond Va., in 1863 enlisted in the Civil War at the age of 16 years and served throughout the time of the conflict without having been wounded, though he underwent hardships and told may interesting experiences.
Coming to Texas at the close of the war he worked at the carpenter trade in Dallas, Collin and Denton Counties, and many of the houses he built are standing, it is related.
In 1877 Dooley purchased land in the Litseu community from the late Gilbert Gibbs on which he has since lived and engaged in farming and cattle raising, working with Gibbs during his life time. The home is two and one-half miles from Justin. Gibbs was a member of the Methodist Church.
