Earl O'Farrell was born in Muscatine, Iowa and grew up in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Earl was the younger child born to Harvey O'Farrell and Cora Harback-O'Farrell. His mother died when he was six months old. After her death, Earl was raised by his maternal grandparents (Norman and Almina Harback) and his sister, Irene, was raised by her aunt and uncle (Orilla Harback-Brown and Edwin Brown). Earl was a carpenter by trade - he and a handful of friends and neighbors built many of the houses in the neighborhood around Columbia Street and Preston Avenue in Elgin, Illinois in the middle 1920's. His talents were gardening and making his grandchildren laugh. He was the quintessential Leprechaun come to life...a wiry little Irishman (5'6") who always had a story to tell and a twinkle in his eye in the telling of it. He was survived by his wife, Opal, three children and thirteen grandchildren. Rest peacefully Da - we miss you.
