Doris Marie Tuthill passed away on July 17, 2010, in a most beautiful setting, at Effusion Care Home in Camp Verde, Ariz. Doris was 87 years old. She was born on Sept. 9, 1922, in Greenville, S.C., to Harold and Elsie Tuthill.

Doris had only one sister who was several years younger than her named Evelyn. The family had moved to New York after a few years because of her father's work. After graduating high school in the Bronx, Doris joined the United States Navy. She served in World War II and served as a First Class Seaman from 1942 through 1944. She hated to leave the service and almost made it a career.

She worked for two companies in New York for many years as a bookkeeper. One company was called Brooks and Kapilas and Doris worked there for 32 years. Doris loved the hustle and bustle of the City of New York. Doris' best friend and husband had died in their early 50s, so she stepped in to be a special aunt for their only two daughters, Christine and Marthajane. Doris played a very big part in their lives, and helped with raising their children.

She retired at the age of 69 in Yonkers, N.Y. In 1993 at the age of 7o, Doris moved to Arizona with Marthajane and her husband Willet and their four girls, Billie, Dana, Casey and Jodie, and moved to Cave Creek, where they lived for two years, and then moved to Chino Valley. Doris never missed the girls' track and ball games. She would travel all over the state so she could see all the games and meets. How she enjoyed the sports and competitions of the young girls. As the girls got older, Doris moved to Prescott to be closer to town and lived in a nice area close to markets and shopping.

Doris loved everyone, and had such a fun, witty and likeable personality. She often went to the library and read a lot about history and gadgets. She loved to go to the zoo in Prescott. She loved animals and nature. Doris had worked part-time for Costco as a food sampler, and how she enjoyed it. She could mingle and talk to people. Doris was always so sweet and caring of people. Until the day she
passed, she always asked how everyone was doing. Doris will greatly be missed!

She leaves behind all the people who shared her life with her: her close and best friend "Billie" and Craig Myers, Barret, Tammy and Hailey Myers, her niece, Marthajane, Willet, grandnieces, Billie, Jodie, Dana and husband Hoss Salivar, children, Tyler Hixon and Holden Salivar, and Casey and Shane Perkins, children, Baylee and Mark Perkins, her niece Christine and daughter Dayle, a sister Evelyn and Gene Cochran and her niece, Cathy Scalzo, children, Christopher and TJ, and nephew, Eugene and Donna Cochran, and daughter Abby Cochran.

Doris will have a military service including a 21-gun salute at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at the Prescott National Cemetery on Highway 69.

The funeral arrangements are being taken care of by Bueler Funeral Home in Camp Verde, Ariz., 928-567-5206.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to send donations to the Wounded Veterans, Attn: Volunteers, 500 Highway 89 N, Prescott, AZ 86313, or Hospice Compassus, 7o Bell Rock Plaza, Suite A, Sedona, AZ 86351.
