He was born June 12, 1939, in Brewer, the son of Herbert and Edna (Moulton) Lowell.
He graduated from Bucksport High School in 1958, entered and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for St. Regis Paper Co., and retired in 2001 from International Paper Co., after 43 years of service. He was a member of Elm Street Congregational Church and Felicity Lodge No. 19 AF & AM, both in Bucksport, as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 3177, Brewer. Ed enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Senior's Group at Rocky Knoll Country Club, Orrington.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda J. (Richards) Lowell; one son, Anthony Lowell and his wife, Lisa, of Bucksport; five grandchildren, Lynne, Dakota, Anthony Jr., Samuel and Alyssa; one brother, Philip Lowell of Starke, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Edwin "Lee" Lowell Jr. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at Riverview Cemetery, River Road, Bucksport, with the Rev. Linda Smith officiating. A reception will be held immediately after the service in Brown Hall at Elm Street Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elm Street Congregational Church, P.O. Box 878, Bucksport, ME 04416 or Hancock County Homecare Hospice, P.O. Box 156, Blue Hill, ME 04614. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
