In Memorium

J.L. Ramsey was born in Virginia, August 24, 1818. He moved to Illinois and thence to Kansas in 1791(sic). He was married in early life to Nancy Welch, to them was born two sons and one daughter. After the loss of his companion he married Elizabeth Barhan; to them was born twelve children, eight of whom still live to mourn his loss.

In the last days of October, 1891, death, the dread invader of homes, came and again removed his companion, and before the clay on her grave is hardly dry, he comes and takes a son, and while the echo of his heavy foot-fall is still heard, uninvited returns, and at his command the soul that for 73 years, 8 months, had lived in the body, bade it farewell, while he with icy cold lips kissed the eyelids down into that long and dreamless sleep men call death. Kind friends carried his remains and laid them to rest beside the loved ones that had passed before.

The funeral was conducted from the family residence Monday afternoon by Rev. W.L. Morris, of Wamego.
