Funeral services for Mr. Clyde Preston Franklin, 89, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Brown Funeral Chapel in Byrdstown with Bro. Jeff Flowers and Bro. Austin Flowers officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Pickett County.

Mr. Franklin died Saturday, Oct. 6 at his home. He was a retired coal miner, a General Motors employee, a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II as a tech sergeant, and a member of Oak Grove Church. He also enjoyed painting as a hobby.

Born September 10, 1918, in Wilder, he was the son of the late Elwood and Elsie (Smith) Franklin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Cecile Margaret Franklin; 2 sisters, Louise Huff and Jeraldine McIntire; and a grandson, Shane Gessford.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda (Kennedy) Franklin of Monroe; a daughter, Loranna Gaye Saulter of Muncie, IN; a step-son, Tony Cooper of Monroe; a step-daughter, Angela Robinson of Monroe; a brother, Carl Franklin of Oklahoma; a grandchild, Glenn Allen Kreider of Arizona; and other family members and friends.

Pallbearers were Dudley Kennedy, Mike Keel, Chris Robinson, Terry Byrd, Peanut Bilbrey, and Dusty Byrd.
