According to a biosketch by his great-great-great granddaughter Helen Blades in the 2007 Republic, MO history, Edward and his wife Ellen Penelope (Maynard) Blades came to Greene County, MO in 1836 from Monroe or McMinn County, TN. They were among the first six families living in Pond Creek Township. Their children were Sarah Ann (McDaniel), Ransom Dudley, Nancy E. (Hood, Batson, Brown), Isaac Tillman, Cynthia (Hood), Edward A. Another biosketch in the Republic history book (p. 248) states that Edward had been married twice before he married Ellen Penelope and had at least four daughters by the first two wives. His birthplace is noted by some sources as NC and by others as MD.
