The body was brought to Wichita this morning and is at the parlor of the City Undertaking Company. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning if Mr. Berry's parents arrive. Rev. L. M. Birkhead, of the Unitarian Church, will have charge.
Obit: George W. Berry, a resident of Wichita for five years, was killed near Cherryvale early Sunday morning when his automobile was overturned. He was driving alone from Iola, where he had charge of sewer construction work. He wanted to catch a train at Cherryvale for home.
Mr. Berry left Iola about 1 o'clock Sunday morning and was last seen driving at a high rate of speed by a farmer four miles from Cherryvale at 4 o'clock that same morning. Two hours later he was found pinned under his car in the road. His clothing was saturated with gasoline. Accoring to the coroner's inquest, he was asphyxiated for he was scarcely bruised.
Mrs. Berry , when seen at her home, 227 Lulu Avenue, this morning said that she was uneasy and unable to sleep during the night preceding her husband's death. "A black cloud seemed to hang over me all night and it was impossible for me to sleep." At the time she could not account for her restlessness but now believes it was a premonition of the approaching tragedy. Sobbing, Mrs. Berry told a reporter that her husband had said to her several times: "I hope when the time comes for either of us to die that we may be taken together, I could not bear life without you." "He was such a strong, healthy man," said Mrs. Berry. "I never supposed he would be the first to be taken, And now I wish I could go, too. The responsibility seems too great for me to bear alone."
Mr. Berry was a junior partner in E.M. Eby Construction Company, of this city, and according to Mr. Eby, Mr. Berry's future was unusually bright. He was 30 years old. Mr. Berry was popular in business circles of the state. He had been with Mr. Eby for eight years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge of Concordia.
