Mrs. L. H. Rogers Is Dead At Her Home Many Years Here
Mrs. Laura Henrietta Rogers died at 1 o'clock Thursday morning, after an illness of only a week, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. H. Bosworth, on Rees Park.
Mrs. Rogers was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac McCrary. She was born in Twiggs county, Georgia, and moved to Americus at the age of three months, and has since been a resident of this city. In her young womanhood she married Mr. Seth Rogers, who preceded her in death twenty years or more.
Mrs. Rogers leaves several children who survive her, there being Henrietta Lenora Bosworth (Mrs.L. B.Bosworth), Americus; Mrs. Anna Wilson, Plains; Mrs. Lucy Runyon, Atlanta; Samuel D. Rogers, Perry; E.A. Rogers, Seymour, Texas. She also leaves four sisters, she being the eldest of these. They are Mrs. Leonora Lindsay, Americus; Mrs. Lamira Durkin, of Columbus; Mrs. Lamamdra Godwin, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. J. P. Chapman, of Americus. Eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren survive her.
Funeral services were held at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. L. H. Bosworth, on Rees park, at 10:30 Friday morning and Interment at Oak Grove cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Thomas.
There was no better known or universally loved woman in Sumter County than Mrs. Rogers. She was in her 86th year, and was probably among the oldest residents in Americus. She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian church, and one of that church's strong supporters. Mrs. Rogers had written during her life numbers of beautiful poems, and almost every member of her family possesses one of these. They now hope to complete the collection and have a book printed for keepsakes.
The pallbearers are Paul Brooks Bosworth (Brooks Bosworth), J.A. Revere, Jr.; Claude Mauck, William Harrison Estes
(W. H. Estes) and Dr. Carl Logan, grandsons, and John Ed Chapman, a nephew.
