George Arthur Bowhay, longtime resident of Ponca City passed away Thrusday evening, Feb 24, 2005 at Via Christi Oklahoma Regional Medical Center. He was85.

A traditional noon feast well be held Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Ponca Indian Methodist Church with services to follow at 2 p.m.. The Reverend Phil Byington and Lynn Eaves will preside. Burial will be in the Ponce Tribal Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

George was born Oct.24,1919 at Cashion, the son of Arthur Bowhay and Edith Sandefer Bowhay. He moved with his family as a youth to Ponca City area where he later married Arneva Williams.

George was employed as a truck driver for many years and had also served in the Army Air force Reserve. His enjoyments included fishing, playing cards and watching John Wayne movies.

He is survived by his wife, Arneva of the home; four sons, Rick Bowhay and wife Jean of Kildare, Buster Bowhay and wifeCheryl of Yukon, David Bowhay and wife Anita of Ponca City and George Wayne Bowhay of Hutchinson, Ks.;two daughters, Pearl Canaday and husband Gary of Kaw City and Patty Gallagher and husband Chico of Ponca City; four brothers, Joe Bowhay of Colorado Springs, Colo., Gene Bowhay of Ponca City, Royal (Dod) Bowhay of Sallisaw and Carl (Bill)Bowhay of Red Oak, TX; one sister, Laurene De Armand of Coldwater, KS; 10 grandchildren;5 great-grandchildren; numerous neices and nephews; father-in-law, Parrish Williams and other family members that include Curt and Eve Williams, Jimmy Williams, Beverley and Wayne Picotte, Buelah and Ron Sharron, Maxine and Julian Thompson, Resa and John McKnight and Zack and Cathy Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donn Bowhay; one daughter Shirley Jean; one sister CArol Lewis; one grandson,Aaron Foster Gallagher and Mother- in - Law, Eunice Williams.

CAsket bearers will be Rick Bowhay, Buster Bowhay, Justin Thompson, Randall Sherron, David Bowhay, and Joe Thompson. Honorary casket bearers will be Bill Hargraves, Jim Bussey, Jim Flesher, Owen Greer, Jim Hall, Curtis Williams, Zack Williams, Danny Bowhay, Ed Heidlage, James Williams, Parrish Williams and Gil Morris.
