DEATH CLAIMS B S CHEEK

Benjamin Smith Cheek 65, of 505 East Whittington St, died yesterday morning at Duke Hospital in Durham, where he had been a patient for several days. Illness of 6mos preceded his death, and he had been under treatment in several hospitals during that time.

Cheek, native of Chatham County, had resided here for 43yrs. For 34yrs he operated the B.S.Cheek Plumbing and Heating Company. He was a member of the Asheboro Street Baptist Church and active in church affairs, including the choir. He was also a member of the State Board of Master Plumbers and of Local #610 of the United Plumbing & Heating Org.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Katie Thompson Cheek, 7 sons, N.Odell of Florence, SC, Charles R., B.Fred, Gilmer L., C. Alexander, Billy E., and John E. all of Greensboro; one daughter, Mrs. E.M.Morgan of Greensboro; one brother, Grady Cheek of Shelbourn; 3 sisters, Mrs A.W. Greesom of Greensboro, Mrs Nannie Hamilton of Kinston and Mrs Gladys McCracken of Richmond, VA; 14 grandchildren and one great.

Funeral will be at Asheboro Street Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev.J.Ben Eller assisted by Rev.J.Lester Lane of Suffolk, VA and Rev.T.W.Bray of Faith. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. The body will remain at Hanes Funeral Home until the time of the funeral.
