Jeffrey Forbes Buckalew of Charlottesville, Virginia, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, in an airplane accident near Morristown, New Jersey.

Jeff was born on November 12, 1966, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and spent his early years in Atlanta, Georgia, and Winston Salem, North Carolina. He attended the public schools in Winston Salem and graduated from RJ Reynolds High School in 1984. He attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, obtaining a bachelor's degree in 1988 and an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School in 1993.

He spent his entire professional career as an investment banker in New York City, holding positions at several firms before joining Greenhill and Co., in 1996, as one of its original members. At the time of his death he was head of Greenhill's North American Corporate Advisory business.

Jeff is survived by his parents, Vardaman and Sherry Buckalew of Winston Salem, North Carolina; two brothers, Douglas of Houston, Texas, and children, Nicholas and Emelia; and Edward and wife, Lisa, of Peachtree City, Georgia, and children, Ian and Amy; aunts, Sarah Shaw of San Francisco, California, Susan Riddiford and husband, John, of State College, Pennsylvania, and Lysbeth Quackenbush of Chatsworth, California; an uncle, Gregg Buckalew and Mary Martin of Atlanta, Georgia; and other nieces and nephews.

Jeff is also survived by Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Stickley, Robert Stickley Jr. and wife, Jenny, Elizabeth Scott and husband, George; as well as nieces and nephews, Vaden, Mallory, and Addison Scott, and Caroline and Thomas Stickley. Jeff was widely regarded by all who knew him as a highly principled and disciplined individual with a strong commitment to his work, an exceptional ability to instill confidence and a great capacity to form lasting friendships. He was involved in numerous civic and charitable activities in both New York and Charlottesville. Most of all, he had a deep devotion and abiding love for his wife Corinne and their two children Jackson and Meriwether, all of whom died in the accident. They go to be with an infant child Thomas Charlton who predeceased them.

A service to celebrate the lives of Jeff and his family was held Friday, December 30, 2011, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 607 North Greene Street, Greensboro, NC, 27401.

A memorial service was held in New York City at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home of Greensboro, North Carolina.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Jeffrey F. Buckalew scholarship fund established by Greenhill and Co. at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler Business School), Good Shepard Services, 305 Seventh Avenue, New York, New York,, or to the charity of one's choice .
