COLUMBUS - Stutsman, Gerald E., 68, won his three-year battle with Pancreatic Cancer Wednesday, 15 June 2011 at Hospice of South-Central Indiana, as he "slipped the surly bonds of Earth" to find his Peace everlasting.

Mr. Stutsman was born 12 September 1942 in Scottsburg, IN, to Ellsworth "Buck" and Edith (Gibson) Stutsman. Upon his graduation from Scottsburg High School in 1960, he moved with his family to Columbus, where he began taking classes at the then-named Indiana Business College, graduating with an Associate's Degree in 1961.

On his 18th birthday in 1960, Mr. Stutsman went to work for the Reliance Electric Company on Seventh Street in Columbus; after 40 years of service, he retired from Reliance (then Rockwell Automation) in March 2001, as Supervisor of Renewal Parts.

Mr. Stutsman was drafted on his 21st birthday and proudly served his Country for three years as a Supply Clerk in the Army at Fort Hood, Texas.

During the late '60s and '70s, Mr. Stutsman participated in bowling, softball and ping-pong leagues here in Columbus. He was a life-long fan of both NASCAR and hunting; he particularly enjoyed the race at Daytona and pheasant hunting with his buddies near Hastings, NE. In later years, he and his wife got into showing their classic cars; he was particularly proud of his 1958 Nash Metropolitan and his 1969 Olds 442.

Mr. Stutsman is survived by his mother Edith, of Columbus, four aunts, numerous cousins, his sister-in-law Evelyn, of Bedford, IN, his wife Barbara, his mother-in-law Edith M. Miller and his son Scott, both of Scottsburg, IN.

Services for Mr. Stutsman will be conducted in two stages, the first being a viewing from 4-8 p.m. Friday, 17 June 2011 at Myers-Reed Chapel, 3729 E. 25th St. in Columbus, IN. Secondly, a viewing from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday 18 June, with services at 1, will take place at Collins Funeral Home, 465 W. McClain Ave., Scottsburg, IN. He will be laid to rest in the Scottsburg City Cemetery immediately following the service.

The family courteously asks that nothing (flowers, gifts, etc.) be sent to the funeral home in Columbus; rather, donations in his memory to Hospice of South-Central Indiana will gladly be accepted to help support that wonderful organization and facility. Flowers and the like will most graciously be accepted at Collins in Scottsburg for the services on Saturday. Additionally, the family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations in his memory be made to PANCAN, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
