Obituary for Sylvester J. Spires

Sylvester Juines Spires, a life-long resident of Minonk and vicinity, passed away at his home on Fourth street in this city last night at 10:20. For a number of years he had been in poor health and during the last eight weeks he had suffered intensely and the peaceful end was eagerly awaited and longed for by him.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. Paul's Evangelical church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the pastor, Rev. Paul Buchmueller. Burial will be in Minonk Cemetery.
Mr. Spires was the oldest son of the late Richard Spires and the late Martha (Savage) Spires. He was born near Minonk on Oct. 17, 1861, and grew to manhood there.
On October 1, 1884, he was married to Amelia Boston at the Boston home place. Two children blessed this union: Henry Richard Spires, at home, and Elizabeth Margaret, Mrs. Philip Osuma of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Three brothers survive: Thomas Spires, of Cornell, Herbert Spires of Minonk and Arthur Spires of Minonk.
Mr. Spires followed farming until his retirement to Minonk some years ago.
Mr. Spires was a kind and loving husband and father, a man deeply devoted to his home. He was a good citizen and all those with whom he came into contact, learned to respect and regard him highly.
