The funeral service for George T. Curdts will be held this afternoon at 5 o'clock from the Curdts residence, 520 Westmoreland Place, and will be conducted by Rev. T. S. Daniel, pastor of the Johnson Memorial Presbyterian church. The remains are at the residence and will be there through the funeral hour. The death of Mr. Curdts occurred on Thursday afternoon at 12:50 o'clock as a result of a heart attack he suffered while at the Woolworth store, where he had served as manager for the past 20 years. He was carried to his residence from the store and his passing occurred shortly thereafter. Mr Curdts was born November 27, 1883 in Norfolk Virginia, a son of the late Louis and Amelia Greenwood Curdts. In 1904, he began his career with the F. W. Woolworth store and remained in Norfolk until 1907 at which time he transferred to Wilmington, Delaware. On December 28, 1908, he married Miss Sue Butt of Norfolk, who has been a faithful companion through the years of their married life. The family has lived numerous cities over the United states, and moved to Jackson from Jacksonville, Florida in 1926. Mr. Curdts was one of the most efficient and outstanding managers of the Woolworth company, and was recognized as one of the city’s most prominent and generous business men. He was of the most reserved and modest character, and his kindness and generosity to his employees and to the needy of Jackson will be remembered for many years. Since childhood, Mr. Curdts has been a faithful member of the Presbyterian church, and at the time of his passing was one of the most valued members of the First Methodist Church of this city. For the past 18 years he has been a loyal member of the Rotary Club of Jackson, and was always willing to help with any civic enterprise or charitable campaign. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Sue Butt Curdts, he is survived by four daughters, Mr. J. H. Simmons of Aberdeen, Mississippi, Mrs. A.B. Camp of this city, Mrs. Emmett Goodman of Belton, Texas, and Miss Edna Earl Curdts of Nashville, Tennessee; two sons, Herbert Curdts of Milan, Tennessee, and Sgt. Dilworth Curdts of Camp San Luis Obispo, California, one sister Mrs. Ada Norvell of Norfolk, Virginia and one brother, Edward Curdts of Norfolk, Va, and four grandchildren. Following the service this afternoon (June 10, 1943) the remains will be removed to Lanier Funeral Home where the body will be held prior to interment in the Hollywood Cemetery, pending the arrival of Sgt.
