51 Squadron's Handley Page Halifax BIII (#LW461) bomber aircraft, with an aircrew of seven, took off from RAF Snaith on a night operation over Magdeburg, Germany. Hit and damaged by a German night fighter, the Halifax crashed near Dalum, Kries Meppen, taking the lives of six members of the aircrew.
