LEXINGTON - Mr. Rex Ivan Beshears Sr., 65, recently residing at The Brian Center of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born May 14, 1938, in Wilkes County to Everette and Doris Beshears.

Rex spent most of his life as a truck driver, working for Glosson Motor Lines and Johnson Brothers and later driving for himself, until his health declined in 1990, at which time he gave up truck driving. He attended Unity Baptist Church as long as his health permitted him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his only son, Rex Ivan Beshears Jr., in 1980. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Ella Jean Mitchell Beshears of Kernersville, who spent the past 13 years caring for him in the home until recently, when she was no longer physically able to do so; two daughters, Sue (Allan) Kiger of Lexington and Sandra (Larry) Moore of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Dewey Beshears and Roger (Linda) Beshears, both of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Margie (J.D.) Weatherman of King and Dottie (Larry) Bodenhamer of Lexington; three grandchildren, April Myers and Katrina and Tiffany Littlejohn, all of Winston-Salem; five great-grandchildren, Brandon and Brittany Miller, Levi and Mikala Jean Myers, and Nicholas Littlejohn, all of Winston-Salem; and a stepgrandson, Larry Moore Jr.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Unity Baptist Church, 145 Fishel Road, with the Rev. Kenneth Coker Jr. and Pastor Nathan Parrish officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, where he will be laid to rest with his son, Rex Jr. Mr. Beshears will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends and family from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 20, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to thank all of those who took the time to visit him at home and at the nursing facilities. May God take him and keep him where he will suffer no more.
