He was born December 28, 1924, in Tallahassee, to the late Alto L. Beasley, Sr. and Effie Faraday Beasley. He was a retired salesman and business owner and served in the US Army as Master Sergeant. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Frances Beasley, Havana, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Michael Wright, Sebring, Florida; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Angel Beasley, Mike and Lisa Beasley, all of Havana, Florida; sister, Doris Cox, Quincy, Florida; grandchildren, Jennifer Burroughs and Greg Bates, Coconut Creek, Florida; Amy and Kelly Stewart, Reston, Virginia; Scott Beasley, Jacksonville Beach, Florida; Stephanie and Christopher Rehberg, Thomasville, Georgia; Christina Beasley, Havana, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Steven Nicholas Beasley.
Red began work at a young age, selling vegetables before school during the Depression. After graduating from Florida High, he served his country overseas during WWII.
Upon returning to Tallahassee in 1946, he began his sales and business career and became a fixture in the downtown business community. Red operated and later owned Herndon's Appliance Company for many years, as well as working in sales at Causseaux Appliances and Tallahassee Furniture. He was an avid and very knowledgeable baseball fan and enjoyed fishing, as well as playing and managing both fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball teams.
Most notably, he was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Abbey Funeral Home, with visitation at 11:00 a.m. and services in the Chapel at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at Tallahassee Memory Gardens with immediate family.
