Mary E. Chewning

A funeral for Mary Elizabeth Chewning, 93, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Spotsylvania County, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove. The Rev. Edwin G. Burch will officiate. Burial will be in Wilderness Baptist Church cemetery in Spotsylvania.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Chewning died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at Hughes Home in Fredericksburg.

She was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg and was a graduate of Mary Washington College. She taught in the Spotsylvania County school system for more than 10 years.

She was the widow of Boyd Chewning.

Survivors include two sons, Stanley B. Chewning of Chicago, Ill. and Carlton L. Chewning of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Everette G. Coe of Norfolk; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to a favorite charity.
