Simon Johnson as born 1841, at Vardal, Gjovik, Norway. In the year 1869 he was united in marriage to Berthe Thompson, who preceded him in death on April 22, 1920.

Mr. Johnson and his family came to America in 1878, and settled in the Town of Chimney Rock near Elk Creek, where he has resided ever since. Mr. Johnson has enjoyed excellent health in spite of his age, and has done his share of the work common on a farm. However, the first week of February, this year, he was taken ill and died Sunday, February the 9th, at the age of 87 years, two months and 20 days.

He leaves to mourn his death,
three sons,
1. John S. Johnson (1884-1956) of Chimney Rock, with whom deceased made his home for the last twenty years;

2 Olaf "Ole" S (1871-?) married Tillie Olson, she died before 1900, their son Theodore O (1895-1971) of Whitehall

3. Peter S Johnson (1874-?) of Whitehall; married Lena Kolve, they had son Theodore Johnson (1918-1998) of Hixton

two daughters,
4. Martha, Mrs. Julius A Jacobson, Whitehall and
5. Sena, Mrs. Gustav Gilbertson, (1881-1971) of Elk Creek;
A stepdaughter,
6. Miss Petra Johnson (jacobson) of Elk Creek.

Besides these he is survived by 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral took place from the Chimney Rock church February 13, where a large audience had gathered to pay the departed the last respects. Rev. Wichmann officiated.
