Bio

One of the best features of Find A Grave is that it provides a forum where years of genealogical research can be shared with others. Please let me know if you have additional biographical or statistical information for any of my memorials, as it is always welcome. The wealth of knowledge that others have sent to me through Find A Grave is astounding.

If you are aware of links for parents and/or spouses that I have not yet added, I would appreciate it if you would use the edit tab to leave the name and memorial number of the person or people who should be linked.

Thanks to all those who have generously shared your family stories and beautiful photos with me. I sincerely appreciate being allowed to add them to the memorials for your loved ones. The pictures and studio portraits that for years have been carefully preserved in family photo albums, add such a wonderful dimension to Find A Grave. They help create a memorial tribute that is all the more special and meaningful.

Before asking for a memorial transfer, please determine whether or not this is really necessary. Transfers of management should only be requested if you have extensive changes to make to a memorial. You can add photos and suggest corrections even if you are not the memorial manager. Simply having someone in your family tree is not grounds for a transfer request, as it would be impossible for all contributors to manage their entire family trees. Bulk surname transfers will not be considered under any circumstances.

People who request transfers and then fail to improve and maintain the memorial are certainly not honoring the memory of their family member.

Please take the time to consider creating virtual cemeteries as an alternate solution to requesting more than one or two transfers. This allows people to gather the memorials that are meaningful to them into as many groups as desired, and makes them easy to access.

Most people understand what a great site we have created by helping each other and working together. Unfortunately, a very small number of people have recently joined Find A Grave and think that demanding multiple transfers of memorials that are already very complete and linked to family is acceptable behavior. It is not. It is nothing more than pointless greed. I remain very open to working with the good contributors who do not fall into this shameful minority.

Unless otherwise noted, all bios on my memorials were researched and written by me. Post-1922 verbatim obituaries have not been included in order to avoid copyright violations.

I have put a lot of time and effort into my memorials on Find A Grave. I strive to make sure that the information on them is as accurate as possible, but I am realistic and know that mistakes do happen. Please use the edit tab to leave a message regarding any errors or omissions that need to be corrected.

By working together, we can continue to build Find A Grave into a better and better site!

IMPORTANT PHOTO NOTE: During the summer of 2021, some Find A Grave pictures that have been fine for years began flipping sideways. If you see any of my photos that are no longer right-side-up, please let me know via the Suggested Edits Tab (Suggest Other Corrections) so that I can fix them as soon as possible. Thank you!

Notable Dates in Find A Grave History:

• 11 Jan 2022
marked yet another round of ill-advised changes by the management of Find A Grave. Recent deaths now being "invisible" for 3 months makes it much more difficult to correct mistakes, add information or link family members. An even poorer decision deals with expanding the transfer guidelines. There are a few people who do not understand or respect the work that has already been put into Find A Grave. A small number of these people are abusing the guidelines change and using it to thoughtlessly demand that entire groups of memorials be transferred, even though they have nothing of value to add to them. Unfortunately, it only takes a few bad apples to spoil Find A Grave for everyone. I would encourage upstanding contributors who care about this site to let those in charge know about the negative consequences the guidelines change has created.

• 20 Aug 2018 marked a gigantic step backwards when the "new" Find A Grave website became mandatory and the original site was eliminated. The old site was easier to read, easier to use, easier to change, easier to search, had better pictures and was superior in every way. Shame on those in charge who have "upgraded" Find A Grave into a site that is now filled with huge, obnoxious, flashing advertisements. Perhaps the name should be changed to Find An Ad.

• 30 Sep 2013 marked a very sad day for all Find A Grave contributors when the founder of this website sold us out to ancestry.com. I will continue to add to and maintain my memorials as long as Find A Grave remains a completely free website, open to all without charge.
