I am the son of Hardy and Inez Watford Avera. My Mother's parents were Rufus Joseph and Sallie Brown Watford. My great grandparents were Hillery and Martha Keith Watford and McNorrill and Lucy Frances Tyner Brown. Most of the Brown family is buried in Mt. Antioch Cemetery in Limestone County, Texas. My grandparents Watford are also in the same cemetery. I was born in Mart, Texas on May 5,1932. I grew up in Plestine, Texas, and then lived in Mart for a number of years. I taught in the public schools and was later the district librarian. I retired in 2002. For four years after that I was Director for the Museum for East Texas Culture in Palestine. My father's parents were Rufus McLeod and Mary Frances Jones Avera. Her parents were Robert J. Jones and Elizabeth Ann Jones Avera. My Grandmother Avera is buried in Mart, McLennan County, Texas.
