I'm retired -- hobbies are genealogy, travel and photography. Most of my travel includes visits to lighthouses -- I've seen over 1200 of them around the world. My email address relates to my interest in lighthouses... 'wickie' is the term given to lighthouse keepers of the past whose duties included trimming the wicks in the oil lamps atop the tower. This small flame was magnified either via reflectors or lenses (refraction) creating a powerful beam of light.
