Cynthia Rush
Jacob Collins 1773-1837
Hi - I am researching Jacob Collins, who settled his brother George's estate in Warren County, OH between 1822 and 1827 (lots of debts, lots of work). It appears there was a second George Collins who died with a will in 1830. They lived in different pieces of land (listed in the Warren County taxes in the late 1820s). So it seems there was more than one George, and perhaps more than one Jacob.

I am curious about what statements are made in the 1880s journal/diary you mentioned at Jacob's memorial site. Jacob died in 1837 with a will, naming his children, so it's clear that he did have two wives, and Amos was by the 2nd wife Clarinda and apparently got cut out of the money.

But Jacob's daughter Hannah had married Edmund Collins, from New Hampshire. I wonder if he might have been her cousin. I'm confused about when exactly Jacob was in Virginia. The Jacob I'm working on (Hannah's father) cannot have been anyplace but Ohio between 1822 and 1827, because he was settling his brother's estate.

Rev. John Collins seems to be the father of the George who died in 1830 with a will. But I think he cannot be the father of Hannah's dad, Jacob, because that guy had a brother named George who died intestate five years or so earlier than 1830. (I'm not clear when Jacob's sickly brother George died - I think Jacob was handling his brother's affairs long before his death because he was so ill).

Hannah's husband Edmund Collins (perhaps her own cousin) was the son of Benjamin Collins Jr. (1771-1818) from NH. I am eager to know definite proof that the Jacob who was Hannah's father actually came from New Jersey. If he didn't, I'm guessing he came from New Hampshire, although I have not worked out who his father could be (IO'm working on that).

So, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, I would be very grateful if you could transcribe the journal, or check the information there so it's clear nobody is making any assumptions about a person named Jacob Collins. Thank you so much for your help - I know I'm asking a lot. Thanks.

Elizabeth is my husband's great grandmother in his mother's line. I am working on updating findagrave info on all of this line and would love to have you transfer management to me as it would make it easier to make changes when it is necessary.

I am curious about your connection - are you related or is this a genealogy/history interest on your part?

My daughter got me started with findagrave when she was living in France for a year - she wasn't allowed to work while there so she looked up info for findagrave requesters and while in a Paris cemetery one day she met a man who was able to introduce her husband to the widow of the very man he was doing research on - serendipity in the cemetery!

Louise Taraba
Hannah Bennett (?)
Saw your statement posted with a flower on Jacob Ellsworth's memorial. Notice you show Hannah as a Bennett born 1753, died 1819, daughter of Mary Bennett. I am a direct descendant and have been trying desperately to document data for her. There is good documentation that Jacob's wife was a Hannah and been trying to source the above data, but I keep running into brick walls. It is my hope that you will please share with me your sources.
Any assistance will be most appreciated.
Thank you kindly. Louise

Thank you for making my day! Compliments swell my head to giant proportions! Now I need to buy size XXL hats to wear.

I have had my share of chuckles on this site, not to mention the hundreds of hours spent playing find a grave, gotcha!

Larry :-)

Thank you for Bud's obituary, but I always omit the living relatives addresses.

RE: William H Leigh
Marilyn, I'm just going to confirm that he's NOT at Calvary Cemetery at LaSalle. If the death certificate says Calvary Cemetery at LaSalle, it's probably incorrect, and I wouldn't know where to begin to find him. Sorry.

RE: William H. Leigh
I will be documenting the cemetery in the future, and will consult the plot map, just to verify. Glencoe Cemetery is somewhere nearby and administered by the archdiocese; I suspect that some of the folks listed as being in Calvary are actually in Glencoe Cemetery. LaSalle Institute and LaSalle Retreat Center are the same property; I don't think the Institute exists anymore.... I will check that too. Thx.

RE: Robert B. Strain
Thank you. I came up with same father, too. Allen is the son of James Strain who died 1789, intestate in Augusta Co., VA and left many chancery court records dividing his property amongst his family who all moved to Jefferson or Blount Co., TN. I hadn't worked on this family in a long time. Appreciated,

Jane Snell Copes
Collins Snell connections
Hi Marilyn, I know that you have found a great deal of history on Jacob Collins and Mary Ellsworth's descendants. Levi Collins (6213023) married Betsy Snell (6213023) from my line of Snells. And Betsy's next younger brother Samuel Snell (b. 1800) married Rachel Collins. Both marriages are reported to have occurred in Warren County, OH, about a week apart in 1818.

Do you have any info on Rachel Collins? She is not listed in Jacob Collins/Mary Ellsworth's record, and I have not found a grave record for Samuel Snell yet.

Thanks very much! Jane Snell Copes

Hi, I met you @ family reunion for 'Bridge'.
You might remember me giving you pic of Myrtle's Huggans/Huggins family @ hop picking?

Myrtle passed away in Nov. I made memorial for her... Took pic off as identity theft is happening in Find A Grave... You know how to find her memorial... I don't want to publish info here.

I found some files for Don Norman that state Collins have connection to George Washington. I have left the place where found that. I also found a letter from a John Collins to George Washington. Is this this John or father John possibly.

It just tidbit for site if you like to post.
