Jan 2024: I'm seeing a large uptick in memorials being merged into mine. It appears that folks are gaming the FindAGrave system and creating new memorials, then requesting a merge to force in their edits - bypassing the scrutiny of the current memorial manager. When I get notified of these, I always go look at them and will delete any information that I would not have approved had they gone through the proper channels.

While I am thrilled to get updates to my memorials, I like to keep them respectful. I cut-and-paste of a 30-line index of the 1870 census is not a respectful memorial. If you take the time to craft a long-form biography that includes where he/she lived in 1870, that's great. Even with a large stone and long budget, you would never carve a census index into their physical memorial and I don't think you should include one in their digital one either.

I've been an avid genealogist for years, researching my own family and helping others research theirs.

I have now (December 2015) completed a personal project to research every burial in Pioneer Cemetery (aka Masonic or Odd Fellows) in Boise which has just over 1800 burials. I now have about 3,500 memorials on FindAGrave and a related tree on Ancestry.com with 63,000 people.

With this much data out there, I'm getting a lot of contacts asking for more information, sometimes several in a day. I always respond to everyone (unless they're particularly cranky or unintelligible), usually with much help and many answers. But, my response time is not generally measured in hours, but days or weeks! This is just my hobby and I've got many other things in my life that keep me hopping. So, please be patient. I'll get to you. If a month passes, I may have missed your query. Feel free to poke me again!
