FALL PROVES FATAL TO
AGED SULLIVAN INVENTOR
----------------------------------
JERRY LOCKWOOD SUCCOMBS AT THE
NATIONAL SOLDIER’S HOME IN DANVILLE

Following a fracture of his right thigh, sustained little more than a week ago, when he fell at his home, as he started down the steps, enroute to a physician’s office for medicine, Jeremiah Lockwood, 78 years of age, an inventor of note, and a veteran of the Civil War, died at eleven o’clock, Tuesday morning, at the National Soldiers’ Home in Danville, Ill.

He had been confined to his bed, since the injury, and was moved to the Soldiers’ Home on a cot. He was in failing health when he received the injury, which hastened his death.

Lockwood was a lieutenant of Company K, Ninth Iowa Cavalry, and had made his home in Sullivan for years. His wife died several years ago, and he was living alone at the time of his death.

Two daughters in Los Angeles, Calif., and two sons, whose residence is unknown, survive.

The body will be brought to Sullivan for burial.

NOTE : Clearly, he was either never buried in Sullivan, or, they moved the body later.

If you want to send me your email, I can send you a copy of this clipping, this weekend.

RE: Johnson Family Updates
Hi Susan.

I don't think I am related to any of these people. As Ottringham is my home village, I made the decision a few months ago to put all the gravestones in the churchyard onto this website. As you've already done quite a lot before me, you've saved me a lot of time, which is a bit of relief, as you can imagine. Also, apologies if I've made duplicates of the ones you've already done; I make a point of deleting mine once I know this is the case.

Kind regards,

Keith

RE: Marie P Dicks
Hi,

I know Vernon and Marie were in Nebraska in 1917-1918. From there I think they went to Colorado Springs- I can find them there n 1922. Do you happen to know where they were in 1920?

They also adopted Edith Fletcher in the 1930's. Do you have any background on why or how this adoption occurred?

Thanks!

Charlene

Hello, Petra Marie Johansen Dicks is my Great Aunt, as the sister of my Grandmother Edith Johansen Krieg.

I am wondering if you have any Dicks contacts who could help fill in genealogical info.

Hi Susan,

I went by today and could not find her headstone. There were a few stones that were not legible. Do you know if she would be in the Anglican side or the Methodist? I will take a photo of the surrounding area the next time I'm in the area.

McCargar
I was searching the groton rural cemetary for Catherine Boyd McCarver unfortunately many of the stones are no longer legible. I couldn't find Catherine however I did find Thomas McCargar b.1828 d. 1897? With Lucy J. B. 1828 d. 1907. Another stone with Charles R. BOWER B. 1864 D. 1919 WITH EMMA J. MCCARGAR B. 1866 D. 1950. AND ANOTHER MUCH MORE DIFFICULT TO READ STONE WHICH READS DIED IN TARRIFVILLE MARY & L.G. MCCARGAR
if you send requests for these I can get you pictures of the stones
sincerely

Thanks for the photo, I now have doubts to whether he is our relative because of "lest we forget" on the grave marker as he was 89 in 1942.

Thanks so much for the photo it means a lot I had no idea there was a military reference on the stone that's given me something to explore further
