After the horrendous earthquake in Haiti recently, I decided to read a book I inherited years ago, but had no interest in until now. (The Black Rebellion in Haiti" by Pierre Etienne Chazotte, and edited by his grandson, Charles W. Platt) When I did some research, I learned that Pierre or Peter, is my 4th great grandfather and Charles W. Platt is my great grandmother's brother. In reading the book I learned that Pierre was one of only a couple of white people who were able to escape the massacre of multiple thousands in 1804, partly because he had American citizenship. The unedited version is in the Library of Congress. In my research, I stumbled onto Find a Grave, and discovered that many kind people had made memorials for a number of my ancestors, for which I'm extremely grateful. Some have become friends and are assisting me in further family searches! Thank you all! Especially my friend in Reno!
