I have been tracing my ancestors for over 35 years, and I currently have about 5,000 persons researched and identified as direct ancestors to either myself or my husband. My Mom's family have been an interesting dilemma, as her father's surname was "Wilson" and her mother's maiden surname was "Adams" - it has been like looking for a needle in a mountain of needles with those two common names, and all coming from England!

I am searching for all connections with my family line as well as my husband's family line for the benefit of my curiosity, and hopefully, the curiosity of my descendants. The main surnames on my list are Adams, Booth, Brown, Clementz, Egert, Fisher, Grose/Grosse, Houch, Jaegli/Yackley, Kurfiss, McHenry, Merriman, Plummer, Stees, Wilson and Wolf.

I am stuck with the McHenry line, and have been for quite some time:

Daniel Murley McHenry was my 4th great-grandfather
- born 1784 most likely in Kentucky, United States of America
- married Elizabeth "Betsy" Jones 1 June 1802 in Warren County, Kentucky, United States of America
- fathered 12 known children
- was a land owner in Illinois
- lived in White County, Illinois, United States of America per the 1820 U S Federal Census
- was appointed and served as a Justice Of The Peace
- was a Methodist local pastor
- was a Methodist Circuit Rider preacher in the old Southern Wabash Conference of the Illinois and Indiana Methodist Church
- died 20 May 1844 in White County, Illinois, United States of America,

Daniel's brother:
William J. McHenry
- born 1771 most likely in Kentucky, United States of America
- married Hannah Ruth Blackford in 1792 in Kentucky
- fathered 10 known children
- served in the U S Army and was discharged 14 August 1832 as a major
- was divorced before 1804
- was elected and served as an Illinois Representative in 1818
- was elected and served as an Illinois Senator in 1832 and served until his death
- was engaged in farming per the 1820 U S Federal Census
- died 3 February 1835

Annnnddddd ... now I'm stuck. I have no idea who their father nor mother were. I do know that their father was born around 1741 in either Ireland or Scotland and emigrated to the United States of America from Scotland sometime before 1771. I do not know what port he came through, nor do I know exactly where in Scotland he came from. I do not know if he was married when he emigrated, or if he married after he emigrated. He most likely lived in Warren County, Kentucky, United States of America when his two sons were born but I cannot prove that fact.

My hope as a volunteer for FamilySearch and FindAGrave is that I will be able to help someone out there find their ancestor ... and in turn, I will eventually be able to make the McHenry connection because someone else is also volunteering to help with these enormous tasks and they should happen to enter data for my ancestors.
